Dick Durbin's Stupid Comments on Gitmo

Today, Dick Durbin tried to dig himself out of the hole he has dug for himself, but only dug it deeper. He originally said, after talking about terrorists at Gitmo, who had to endure rap music, and a lack of air conditioning:

"If I read this to you and did not tell you that it was an FBI agent describing what Americans had done to prisoners in their control, you would most certainly believe this must have been done by Nazis, Soviets in their gulags or some mad regime — Pol Pot or others — that had no concern for human beings,"

When asked today if he was aware of the 2 million killed by Pol Pot, the 10 million killed by the Nazi's, and the 20 to 30 million killed by the Soviets, he responded that he was referring only to their interrogation techniques.

Just to give you one example that shows how stupid this comment is, there was a priest who was being tortured by the Soviets to sign a certain paper, condemning other Christians for various crimes. He refused, even after being beaten. At the end of the day, he was told "Tomorrow, you will sign!" He didn't know what that meant, until the next day his son was brought in, and they began to break his fingers, one by one. The priest then signed the paper. Far worse stories could be told than this. This was routine.

But, thank goodness, he was not forced to endure loud rap music, or to endure a night without A/C.
