Ronaldus Magnus, delivering his "Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall!" speech in front of the Berlin Wall
It is also good to hear Bush speaking up about China. One major area of disagreement I have with the position of the last 3 presidents, is our trade policy with Communist China, and our pretending that they are an ally, when they are an emerging adversary, and a long standing evil in the world.
China is better now than it was in the 60's and 70's, but it is worse now than it was in the 80's... yet our policy towards them has been based on the assumption that they are continuing to open up and become more free. They are becoming more capitalistic, but not freer.
Now is Bush's chance to be truly Reaganesque, and just as Reagan stood in front of the Berlin Wall and said "Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall!", Bush should begin calling for multi-party, free, and open elections. He should openly ask the Chinese government why it is afraid to allow their own people to determine their fate. He should say that re-union with Taiwan should come only when Communist China allows their people the same right to vote that the people in Taiwan now enjoy.
I believe that this would be the beginning of the end of one party rule in China.
